Shane Watson came into the Australian team as an all rounder. He made
his ODI debut against South Africa in 2002. He is a useful all rounder
who, after having a brief, yet successful career with Tasmania got a
call up to the national side, who were in pursuit of a young all rounder
ahead of the 2003 World Cup. But like most of his career, Watson had to
give the
World Cup a miss owing to injury. Injury has plagued his
entire career and he has lost out on many occasions for the lack of
fitness. However, in his 43 ODIs he has scored a total of 507 runs at a
moderate average of 31 and has taken 37 wickets. He has also played 3
Tests for Australia but has not been able to quite establish a name for
himself yet.
